Legal information
Version 1.0 — April 2026
1. Provider
mijngebit.info is provided by Hein van der Woerdt, dentist, based on 45 years of clinical experience in dentistry.
Contact: info@mijngebit.info
2. What is mijngebit.info?
mijngebit.info is a free consumer app that lets you measure and improve your gum health at home. You enter your bleeding and plaque scores (PBAI / PAI) weekly, track your progress through charts, and receive personalised tips based on the data you provide.
The app is intended solely for home use by consumers. There is no treatment relationship, no medical diagnosis, and no clinical supervision.
3. Provided "as is" — no warranties
mijngebit.info is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. The provider does not guarantee that the app is error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for your specific situation.
The app is a tool for self-monitoring and behaviour change. Outcomes depend on the accuracy of your own measurements and the consistency of your oral care. The provider cannot guarantee results.
4. Not a replacement for professional care
mijngebit.info does not replace a dentist, dental hygienist, or other healthcare provider. The app measures only the buccal/labial side of the front teeth — a limited number of measurement points that are not representative of overall oral health.
A healthy bleeding score in the app does not rule out deeper gum problems (pockets, attachment loss). Always consult a dentist or dental hygienist for a full assessment. If you experience pain, doubt, or unexpected findings, contact a professional.
High scores (≥ 70%): the app explicitly advises consulting a dentist or dental hygienist when serious bleeding values are recorded.
5. Scientific basis
The measurement method is based on the PAI (Plaque Awareness Index) and PBAI (Papillary Bleeding Awareness Index) — dichotomous, frontal indices for home use, developed by Hein van der Woerdt on the basis of existing clinical indices (OHI-S, BOP, API).
The support programme is based on Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000) and behavioural principles around habit formation, feedback, and intrinsic motivation.
Sources: Löe et al. 1965; Abbas et al. 1990; iGAM study (PMC8485186); Seuntjens et al. 2025; Keller et al. 2021 (PNAS).
Limitation: the PAI/PBAI indices measure only the buccal/labial side of the front teeth (10 measurement points). Cross-individual comparison has limited reliability. The indices are intended for longitudinal self-monitoring by a single individual.
6. Limitation of liability
The provider accepts no liability for damage — direct or indirect — arising from use of the app, following its advice, technical failures, inaccurate measurements, or incorrectly entered data.
The app is free. To the extent that the law does not entirely exclude liability, liability is limited to €0.
7. Permitted use
The app is intended for:
- Persons aged 16 and over (in accordance with GDPR art. 8 NL)
- Persons who wish to improve their own oral care independently
- Use in a home setting
Use for medical diagnosis, treatment, or scientific research without the provider's consent is not permitted.
8. Availability
The provider aims for reliable availability of the app but does not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, updates, and technical failures may temporarily limit availability.
9. Privacy & GDPR — Privacy Policy
mijngebit.info processes personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You will find the full privacy policy below.
The full privacy policy is also available at: mijngebit.info/privacy.en.html

9.2 What data do we collect?
When you register and use the app, we process the following data:
- First name (an alias is explicitly permitted)
- Email address (a relay address is permitted)
- Year of birth (no day or month; used solely for cohort determination and age validation)
- Bleeding score (PBAI) and optional plaque score (PAI): percentages in steps of 10%
- Oral hygiene data per measurement: toothbrush type, brushing frequency, use of interdental brush / pick / floss
- Photos (optional): one photo per measurement of the front gum area, uploaded by you
- Medical data (optional): medication use, smoking, pregnancy — used solely for personalised tips, entirely voluntary
- Language preference (NL or EN)
- Technical data: login tokens (magic links, JWT) and timestamps
9.3 Special categories of personal data
Oral scores (PBAI/PAI) and optionally entered medical data may qualify as health-related personal data within the meaning of GDPR art. 9. We process these data solely:
- On the basis of your explicit consent (checkbox at registration)
- For the purpose for which you entered them: personalised feedback on your oral care
- With your separate consent: in fully anonymised form for scientific research into the effectiveness of the programme (see §9.3a)
- Never for marketing, profiling, advertising, or sale to third parties
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time via the settings page.
9.3a Scientific research — consent and anonymisation
mijngebit.info investigates the effectiveness of the support programme. For this purpose, measurement data are used in fully anonymised form:
- Name, email address and exact year of birth are never included in the research data
- Year of birth is converted to an age cohort (e.g. 40–52 years)
- Dates are converted to relative time references (e.g. "day 14 of the programme")
- Each export receives a randomly generated participant ID that cannot be traced back to your account
You give consent for this use at registration (checkbox, ticked by default in accordance with GDPR art. 7). You can withdraw this consent at any time via the settings page — without any effect on your access to the app.
9.4 Purpose of processing
- Providing the service: measurement programme, charts, personalised tips and support emails
- Authentication via magic links (passwordless login)
- Administrative communication (welcome email, reminders, progress messages)
- Scientific research into programme effectiveness — in anonymised form only, with your consent only (see §9.3a)
We do not use your data for marketing, profiling, advertising, or sale to third parties.
9.5 Legal basis
- Consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a) and art. 9(2)(a)) — given at registration via required checkbox for use of the service
- Performance of contract (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)) — for providing the service
- Separate consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a) and art. 7) — for anonymised use of measurement data in scientific research; withdrawable via the settings page
You can withdraw your consent for scientific research at any time via the settings page. You can withdraw your consent for the service by deleting your account.
9.6 Retention period
Your data are kept for as long as your account is active. When your account is deleted, all associated data (measurements, photos, medical information, login tokens) are permanently and irreversibly deleted.
Accounts that have been inactive for more than 2 years (no login) are automatically deleted, including all associated measurement data and photos. You will not receive a separate notification about this. You can delete your account at any time via the settings.
Back-ups are kept for a maximum of 30 days and are then automatically overwritten.
9.7 Security
- Connection via HTTPS (TLS)
- Passwordless authentication — no passwords stored
- Login tokens (magic links) are single-use and expire after 60 minutes
- Photos and measurements are accessible only to the logged-in user and the administrator
- Database on secure Strato infrastructure (EU)
9.8 Sharing with third parties
We do not share your personal data with third parties, unless legally required. The app uses the following technical services:
- Strato AG (hosting and email, EU) — data processing agreement in place
- Tailwind CSS CDN and Chart.js CDN — used solely for styles and charts; no personal data are exchanged
9.9 Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the following rights:
- Right of access: you can view your data via the dashboard and settings page
- Right to rectification: you can update your first name and language preference via the settings page
- Right to erasure: via the settings page you can permanently delete your account and all data
