How does mijngebit work?

Everything you need to know to get started, in five minutes.

What do we measure?

mijngebit is primarily designed for measuring gum bleeding. You check whether your gums bleed when you use an interdental brush, pick or floss between your front teeth. This is called the bleeding score. If you wish, you can also measure the plaque on your teeth. That is optional and requires a disclosing tablet.

Bleeding score — how does the measurement work?

  1. 1. Gently slide an interdental brush or pick between two teeth. Don't press too hard — be gentle with yourself.
  2. 2. Repeat until you have been through 10 gaps between your teeth.
  3. 3. Count how many spots show blood. Each bleeding spot = 10%.
  4. 4. Take a photo with your phone. You can upload it later to compare over time.
  5. 5. Click Start the measurement and answer the questions.

Example: 4 bleeding gaps out of 10 = bleeding score 40%

Can't get through?

If an interdental brush doesn't fit, try a pick or floss instead. If you genuinely cannot get through certain gaps, you may measure further along — as long as you measure at 10 spots in total. If you consistently cannot get through, this is a sign that your dentist or dental hygienist needs to clean your teeth first.

Plaque score (optional)

Chew a disclosing tablet and rinse. Your teeth will colour red or purple where plaque is present. Check which surfaces are stained on the front of 10 front teeth. Every stained tooth surface counts as 10%.

Example: 6 stained out of 10 = plaque score 60%

What do the scores mean?

🟢
Under 20% healthy. Keep it up!
🟡
30% – 40% doing well, keep going
🟠
50% – 60% This needs to improve. Think about which step is achievable: brushing more often, an electric toothbrush, or interdental brushes.
🔴
70% and above Brushing properly twice a day will get it below 70%. If in doubt, consult your dentist.

Your 4-week programme

The programme runs over 4 weeks with five measurement points. Each measurement shows how much progress you have made.

Day 0

Baseline. Your starting point. All progress is measured against this.

Day 7

Second measurement. First effects of your new approach.

Day 14

Third measurement. A trend is appearing in your chart.

Day 21

Fourth measurement. Your new habits are taking hold.

Day 28

Fifth measurement. Final goal. People who clean interdentally every day and brush twice daily typically reach a bleeding score below 20%.

Your dashboard is always open

You can view your charts and photos at any time, even between measurements. The programme runs over four weeks, but your measurement windows do not expire if you measure a little later. Your dashboard always shows when you can measure. You don't need to remember anything.

Support emails during the programme

After each measurement you automatically receive two support emails:

3 days after the measurement A personal encouragement based on your score and intentions.
7 days after the measurement An invitation to do your next measurement.

After 4 weeks

After day 28 you choose how you continue. Your options:

  • Monthly repeat (every 4 weeks)
  • Every 2 months
  • Every 3 months
  • Every 6 months
  • Stop. Your data is kept.

The choice is always yours. You can come back at any time.
